Superman in Love

It’s TMZ day at the blog, where we talk all about the super-salacious details on Superman. Like, did you know that Superman’s greatest superpower is his capacity to love? Alright, that’s not really true and we’re not turning into a gossip blog. What is true, however, is that stories about Superman’s relationships have always figured prominently in the comics. Even after 77 years, we still care to read about the emotional bonds of one of Earth’s most powerful superheroes. Unlike some other characters, it seems like writers always give Superman a romantic partner or love interest, whether we’re talking about Lois Lane or Lana Lang or Wonder Woman. And yes, there have been some…let’s say, stranger partners. So without further super-ado, let’s look at Superman in love.

SDCC Growth

The San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is like the Super Bowl for comic and superhero enthusiasts. But fanfare wasn’t always this enthusiastic early on. In fact, back in the early 1970s, the SDCC was an event with a little more than 300 attendees. Led by a tight-knit, niche community of comic book lovers, and fed by the Hollywood superhero movie making machine over the decades, the SDCC has hit a fever pitch with a whopping 130,000 attendees in 2015. It has gained so much popularity over the years, officials are even looking to expand the San Diego Convention Center to accommodate the rabbles and hordes of cosplayers, comic book fans, and movie enthusiasts wanting tickets in the years to come.

As major Marvel and DC movies continue breaking records year after year, SDCC and Comic-Con culture aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. And while it’s no secret that attendance has skyrocketed over the years, this graphic demonstrates the unprecedented expansion of the SDCC much to the pleasure of comic book and superhero geeks like us. For the lucky attendees, enjoy claiming your small place in SDCC history this year and please, bring us back something nice!
