Best Selling LEGO Video Games

LEGO has been around since 1949, but the library of movie-influenced video games created by the toy company didn’t come into being until the early 2000s. There were two Harry Potter-themed LEGO Creator games in ‘01 and ‘02, but the action-adventure series that we’re most familiar with hit the shelves in 2005 with LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game. Since then, millions upon millions of copies of games from this series have been sold worldwide, including more Star Wars entries, as well as games based on superhero films, Indiana Jones, and Lord of the Rings. Sure, we know that these were POPULAR games, but just how popular? In this infographic, we, ahem, stack each title up against one another to see which movie-themed LEGO video game was the most successful. Which game was the biggest BLOCK-buster?

Final Fantasy: Behind the Bestiary

Final Fantasy is a wildly successful series of games and other media developed by Square Enix. The franchise began as a role-playing video game for the Famicom—later released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the U.S.—drawing from Asian, European, and Middle-Eastern fantasy along with time travel and futuristic elements. Successive games have pushed the boundaries of futurism and also dabbled in steampunk and the post-apocalypse. Square Enix has taken a similar approach with their media: in addition to the dozens of video games, they have developed films and television series, manga and novels, and soundtracks.

Even through ever-changing genres and media forms, Final Fantasy is perhaps most well-known for its recurring cast of monsters that serve to hinder and test the heroes. Enjoy this "museum tour" through six of those monsters, their etymology and backgrounds, and a glimpse at how their appearances have evolved...

Marvel at the Movies Infographic Header

In 1986, George Lucas wanted to step away from directing films and move on to producing them. He teamed up with a group of writers from Marvel Comics to produce Howard the Duck, arguably one of the WORST movies ever made. Flash forward to 2015: Marvel has become their own production company and is a juggernaut at the box office. Marvel Studios holds many box office records, including three of the four largest opening weekends of all time. So how did we get from the likes of Howard the Duck and The Punisher starring Dolph Lundgren (yes, Ivan Drago himself) to the likes of Iron Man and The Avengers? Take the journey with us as we explore the history of Marvel at the movies with this infographic.

The Legend of Zelda Quest Items Infographic

With scant news about a new The Legend of Zelda title for the Wii U at the most recent E3 Expo, many Zelda fans were left wondering what is in store for the future of the franchise. A new Nintendo 3DS game was announced, Tri Force Heroes, but it appears to be more of a stop-gap release (and spiritual sequel to the somewhat lackluster Four Swords Adventures), as opposed to a true, epic Zelda tale. While fans wait, take a trip through nearly 30 years of Zelda releases and the important quest items needed to complete each game. See how the way we played Zelda has changed through the years, from CRT televisions to handheld devices, to widescreens and high definition. No matter how you play Zelda, remember, it's dangerous to go alone.

The Evolution of Mickey Mouse

Hi there, boys and girls! Even if you've cut yourself off from all pop culture media for the last few decades - can't tell Beyonce from Harry Styles, for example  - chances are, you know Mickey Mouse. He's only THE most famous animated rodent of all time, the official spokesman for Disney, and really, America's truest sweetheart. It's pretty well-known that he had his beginnings with Steamboat Willie, chugging along on that boat, but what about all his other evolutions? In this infographic, we start back in 1928 with his first appearances in those black and white short films and travel up through the present, detailing all his looks and transformations along the way.

The Goonies: Never Say Die

In the 30 years since its release, The Goonies has been widely recognized as a cult classic. While firmly rooted in the 1980s—Cyndi Lauper and the Bangles on the soundtrack is proof enough of that—the story is truly timeless. After all, a movie about oddball kids outsmarting dimwitted criminals and saving their neighborhood from demolition could easily be released this year! And who doesn’t dream about crawling through old tunnels, disarming Rube Goldberg-like traps, and finding pirate treasure? (That CAN'T just be us.) The most wonderful thing about The Goonies, though, is its cast. Over the past 30 years, many of its then young and unknown actors have found great success throughout the entertainment industry. If you find yourself asking “where else do I know them from?”, read on!
