The history of the madden curse

The legend began in 1999. Garrison Hearst was the first professional football player to be featured solo on the cover of EA Sports' most popular game, Madden NFL. Shortly thereafter, Hearst suffered a broken ankle that left him sidelined for two entire seasons. The pattern has continued in much the same way over the last 15 years: secure a coveted spot on the cover, expect a setback in your NFL career. Incidents have run the gamut from an increase in interceptions to sprained ligaments and broken bones.

With Madden NFL 15 set to be released on the 26th of this month, "The Curse" is again fresh on everyone's minds and questions abound. Will Richard Sherman experience the same athletic mishaps as so many cover stars before him? IS there such a thing as The Madden Curse? Browse our complete visual history and decide for yourselves!
